Gregory Mountain Products was founded in 1977. Wayne Gregory is the founder. At the age of 14, Gregory made his first back pack as a Boy Scout project. Gregory was attending a boy scout camporee and met Andy Drollinger, the founder of San Diego California Adventure 16. Andy was impressed with Wayne’s design. This prompted Gregory to spend time at the Adventure 16 factory. He would buy raw materials and tinkered with a variety of backpack ideas. He soon became the companies youngest employee.
Gregory is known for his innovation, ergonomic design, and quality. Gregory found external frame packs too rigid which didn't allow any flexibility, and the internal frame packs were too soft to adequately support serious weight. He put his mind to work to develop the Gregory Active Suspension System.
In 1983 Wayne merged his business with Bianchi International and moved the company an hour north to Temecula California, where it remains today.
Gregory backpacks are noted for these features:
Fit - the backpacks fit your body and are lightweight.
The perforated framesheet combined with Aerotech® mesh backpanel promotes air flow across the back. Padded scapula and lumbar pads for positive load transfer.
The independent camming waistbelt system automatically registers hip angle. Natural pivot control lets you automatically adjust the amount of pack pivot as you hike transfer.
The Exo•Frame™ Technology bends with your body.
Gregory backpacks are durable. The sewing and tacks are reinforced in the high stress areas.
Gregory works with the manufacturers to develop the sturdy, quality fabric for the backpacks.
