Ratings & Reviews: Darn Tough® Hike-Trek Coolmax Cushion Boot Sock
Good, but still looking for the best!, 8/14/2008 Reviewer: Laura (Scenic Coast, CT)
I bought Darntough FULL cushion Coolmax. I was first shipped the lesser cushion Coolmax sock by mistake, so I had a chance to see and feel it even though I didn't wear it. I didn't think there was substantially more cushion in the Full cushion in comparison.
The fit around the foot was fine and comfortable. I had read some reviews stating the top edge was a little too tight around the calf. I agree.
I had previously tried Thorlo Women's Light Hiker Crew with Coolmax. These kept my feet totally dry from sweat, but I felt I needed more cushion on the foot, so I tried these Darn Tough socks. The Thorlo socks kept my feet drier. The Darn Tough socks still didn't have enough cushion for me and I didn't sense all that much more cushion than the Thorlo.
True test -- on a primarily downhill 4-hour hike I still got a large blister on one heel with the Darn Tough socks. I believe I had my boots laced too loosely and did feel a little bit of sliding in them, so this may be most to blame - however, it takes both moisture and friction to cause blisters, so I'll have to say the Darn Tough socks didn't keep me dry enough.
